This is one of two separate entries in the "Parody Posters" contest at the Disney-Club at DeviantART. The purpose of the contest was to create a parody of an existing movie poster with Disney characters. Following is the description Scott listed on the artwork's DeviantART page:
The idea is to take a non-Disney movie poster and turn it into a Disney poster with Disney characters. For this one, I combined two films about my favorite sport: hockey. It's the 1977 Paul Newman film "Slap Shot" (the greatest hockey movie ever made) and the 1945 Disney animated short film "Hockey Homicide" (starring Goofy).
Putting two hockey films together was a no-brainer. I just took the "Slap Shot" poster and replaced the characters with the Goofy-like characters from the Disney film. "Slap Shot" is a comedy about a minor league ice hockey team that is folding after their current season. So the player/coach (Paul Newman) does everything he can to bring fans in as well as the money and keep the team alive. (The film is rated R for lots of dirty language and brief nudity. So beware if you plan on watching it.) And then the Disney cartoon is about a simple hockey game that quickly degenerates into chaos...and all the characters are essentially Goofy.
As far as the credits at the bottom: I listed a bunch of "Goof Troop" and "Goofy Movie" characters as the cast. Nancy Dowd, Dede Allen and George Roy Hill all worked on the original "Slap Shot". Then, of course, I had to list myself as the animator.
Needless to say, while working on this, I got lots of practice drawing Goofy.
